In order to achieve a cohesive fit and save a lot of time in the patternmaking process, pattern developers start each new style from a standard set of blocks, also known as slopers. These blocks are the key to maintaining consistency in fit, even when there is a wide range in style and design, since each pattern is drafted from the same starting point. In this class we will draft the basic blocks/slopers for a bodice, skirt and sleeve that are the substructure of most flat pattern clothing design. We will learn how to measure the body, translate those measurements into the basic blocks for clothing design and drafting, and how to correctly true and mark patterns. These could be created for your own, personal use to make your own clothing or the foundation for a clothing collection or brand. You will leave with with a standard sloper set of bodice, skirt and sleeve that can be used as the foundation for any future flat patternmaking. To get the most out of this class it is recommended that you have an understanding of how to read and work with paper patterns.
