Thrifting for clothing can be extremely rewarding and exciting, but also tricky and frankly, overwhelming. This class is geared toward anyone with an interest in thrifting and shopping for vintage. We will learn tips and tricks for thrifting, what to look for and stay away from, and how to make the best of your time and money in a thrift store. We’ll also discuss the benefits and impact thrifting has on the environment as well as the statistics of garment waste in the clothing industry. At the end of this course you will have created a journal, provided by us, with useful information on vintage shopping and thrifting.
This class is hosted by Dana and Mady, founders of Kollektiv, and Amanda, founder of Tandem Vintage, which are both Minneapolis-based vintage brands.
Kollektiv started out of our shared love and luck for thrifting and estate sales, and we wanted a way to share our finds with our city. We search for classic and timeless well-made goods. Every garment purchased second-hand means one less new one produced, which is important because regardless of material, the production of clothing is costly to the environment. Kollektiv is Scandinavian inspired and sourced with love.
Tandem Vintage started selling vintage by popping up around the Twin Cities. Her love and passion for shopping second-hand eventually grew into her full-time job. Her hand-picked vintage collection is feminine, colorful and, most importantly, ethical. Pieces represent all decades, but she focuses on finding well-made vintage garments with a modern feel. As a second-hand-only shopper, she believes in collecting pieces that you love that also have a fabulous story to tell.
